Exchange BluRay drive of Sony Vaio SVT15

Recently the optical drive of or family notebook, a Sony Vaio SVT151A11M (SVT1511C5E), stopped working, most probably because the ribbon cable got broken.

Here I'd like to share the steps I took to replace the drive.
I hope this helps. If you'd like to add anything, simply leave a comment.

The laptop with the broken optical drive. Switch it off (Shutdown)
before proceeding with the steps below.

Turn the laptop upside down and remove the screw between the stickers.

Now you can pull out the drive.

Fully pulled out.

Turn it upside down and you can see its a
Pioneer BDC-UD02VA, BluRay/DVD/CD Writer.

The now empty bay.

Its a 9.5mm Ultra- (or Super-) Slim optical drive with a SATA connector.

The replacement drive I've chosen is a Panasonic UJ272 Blu Ray Writer.
On Ebay I paid around 75 EUR

New and old, side by side.

You need to move/screw the holder sheet to the new drive.

Now turn the new drive upside down and slide it fully into the bay
until you can see the holder sheet in the screw hole. Maybe you need
to bend the holder gently up or down for it to fit in.

Now fix it with the screw

Your done, the new drive is installed, ...at least hardware wise,
and you can turn the laptop on again.

On my Windows 10 system, the new drive was not recognized at first.
After applying the registry fix shown and a reboot the
new drive is now fully operational.
